21st July 2015 Chapter Meeting

The wonderful evening started off with the Toastmasters of the evening, Yunus who talked about the South-East Asians favourite fruit, DURIANS. It definitely made the audiences in the room drool, especially when it was just after dinner time. Next up, we had the first-time table topics master, Michael, who gave the table topics theme, global warming, an issue that is so critical, yet often taken for granted. We had our courageous first-time speakers Naga and Ardina to attempt the table topics, as well as Yi Feng, the seasoned speaker.

During the second part of the meeting, the prepared speeches, we had Naga, who presented his ice breaker project and ended his speech with an ended with a powerful quote promoting us to be better than ourselves yesterday, leaving a deep impression in the audiences’ minds. After Naga, we had Shi Han, who spoke about impacts of social media and how we can use social media better. She meticulously organised her points through the use of powerpoint slides which allow us to follow through with ease.

The evaluations segment was something that should not be missed out because we had our first time evaluator Ardina, who evaluated project 1, Nat and Lim Zhen who ended their evaluations with poems which rivaled for the best evaluator spot. Lastly, we had Mr Koh Hock Seng, our guest, who shared with us his secret “good, better, best” evaluation strategy.

The night ended off with Neoh Tse Wei, giving us a detailed report for his General Evaluation. Through his evaluation, we were able to understand the intricacies of an evaluator better and the elements that create a better atmosphere for speaking. It had been a meaningful night for all of us and looking forwards to a more rewarding Chapter Meeting in the future!

“Guess that Member”
This member has joined Toastmaster since February, 2015. This member is going to start her fourth year in Economics next semester. The member told me that Chinese is the subject that the person felt was the most difficult one but did much better in English though. That member is also currently contributing to NUS Toastmaster committee by working on Financial Planning.
