21st October NUS Toastmasters Club Chapter Meeting

  • November 2, 2014August 2, 2015

21st October was our second last chapter meeting of the semester but the unparalleled zest and commitment of our members never fail to amaze me! It was yet another night of insightful speeches and evaluations.

After our SAA for the Night, Dae Min, called the meeting to order, our Vice President of Education, Nathaddeus Tan, welcomed the members in PGP Room 5 with his welcome address. I’m sure many of us were inspired when he invited a few members to share why they joined NUS Toastmasters. It was certainly a timely reminder for us to reflect because we are so often caught up in our destination that we forget why we had embarked on the journey in the first place. For our table topics segment, Hariom challenged us to come up with a convincing story using challenging props such as a $1 coin and a handwash he had specially prepared. It was indeed a daunting yet engaging segment where many interesting stories were shared!

Best evaluator, Tse Wei!

During the prepared speech segment, Thong shared about his friends and passion, Teck Por taught us how to get our research published while Wenxi saved us by giving us tips on how to get out of bed. Nian Deng’s speech forced us to stop and deliberate whether we are living or merely surviving and Yi Feng shared a personal story.

Ken who discussed how playing games would enable us learn important life lessons.

The members in Room 1 were also treated to a round of thought-provoking table-topics with Fong Chuan’s personality test. Yang Shuang started the prepared speech segment with his ice-breaker speech, “Carpe diem, seize the day” and  Huan Hock surprised the audience by sharing how the better vocabulary usage can attract the opposite gender. Looks like it’s time for me to improve my language! Fuk Kin explained to us how a simple, seemingly act could potentially change the life of another while Ken explained to us how playing games can allow us to learn important life lessons. Meng Lu revealed numerous common yet surprising dreams experienced by people. Lim Zhen also presented on how we can create the best Club climate before all the members from the other rooms gathered for the announcements.

With so much excitement and fun, it is really regretful that we are reaching our last meeting for the semester! 🙁
