28th October NUS Toastmasters Club Chapter Meeting
The chapter meeting at Room 3 was kick-started by our Sergeant At Arms Wang Jun, and hosted by our ever-so-humorous Toastmaster of the Evening Jackie. Vice President of Education, Nathaddeus, took over for a while and explained the flow of this evening’s special chapter meeting. And then… our table topic master Li Juekun, dressed up as Death himself, was summoned. Apparently in a bad mood, he “reaped” a few young souls just for not shaking his hand. A truly Halloween treat indeed.
Kicking off the table topics was Jiaxu, who attempted to convince us that ghost do exist in this world by recalling that moment when you are alone in an extremely dark room. Teng Teck Poh then talked about “the scariest moment” of his life, with a clear intention to make that two minutes the scariest of ours – and indeed he succeeded. His low and ghost-ish voice is certainly going to haunt us for many days to come. Anisha then talked about how she would like to decorate her house on Halloween, with a gentle reminder for everyone to prepare enough candies to avoid possible embarrassment. Following up was Min, who shared with us the scariest movie he ever watched, which goes by the title Take Me To Hell. Concluding the Table Topics session was ACL Lim Zhen, who gave us a mini-lecture on how to turn pumpkin into different dishes – very useful and relatable information, could be applied even after Halloween!
The prepared speech section was by no means less enthralling. Our first speaker, Jiaxu, talked about his hometown. Anisha, our second Ice Breaker, shared with us her story as an international student, and how she overcame her identity crisis and stepped out of her comfort zone. Our third speaker, Yi Mei, shared with us a story of her close friend and his girlfriend, reminding us that trust and communication are what make long-lasting relationships. The most Halloween-ish speech was delivered by Annabel, who posed the question: why do we wear masks? Dressed up as “schoolmaster’s greatest enemy” – a pregnant college girl – she gave a thought-provoking speech on the topic of human identity. Our last speaker was Gisela, with her project 6 speech that taught us how to utilize the skills we have learned in Toastmasters to salvage our project – or whatever’s left of it at this stage.

After the completion of the prepared speech, we moved on to the highlight of the night! Halloween celebrations!!
