Toastmasters is a world leader in communication and leadership development.
Founded in 1992, NUS Toastmasters has grown to be one of the largest clubs in the world. We are an enthusiastic community that enhances our leadership and communication skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Visit NUS Toastmasters Club as a guest to find out more about how you, too, can grow to be a better speaker, thinker and leader!
NUS Toastmasters Club develops leadership and communication skills. While public speaking is a crucial aspect of communication skills, it is just one aspect of our development. As a member, you will learn various communication skills such as interpersonal communications, impromptu speaking skills, providing effective feedback, and much more.
Leadership development is also a key feature of your growth with us. As a member, you will have various opportunities to participate and gain practical skills and experiences.
Talk to us or visit our club to discover how NUS Toastmasters Club can complement your personal and professional development.
Our meetings are held on Tuesdays, 7pm to 10pm. We meet weekly during semester time. In the vacation months, we meet once a fortnight. In addition, we have various workshops and events that may be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
We do not have a fixed meeting venue. Contact us to find out more about our next meeting and event!
Toastmasters is a self-paced learning programme. There is no fixed attendance requirement. The more you participate, the faster you learn, and the better you become.
At NUS Toastmasters Club, we use the Toastmasters educational programme to develop our skills. You learn through guidance, experience and feedback. It is a continuous and progressive journey towards improvement and excellence. We are a community that helps each other learn. As we grow from strength to strength, we contribute to our peers’ learning and development through peer feedback.
Additionally, we have various events and workshops that members can participate in to further their learning. Every experience at our club defines your success.
‘Projects’ in the Toastmasters educational programme are structured to develop specific leadership and communication skills. For instance, the first project that you will do is ‘Project 1: The Ice-Breaker’, in which you discover the strengths and areas for improvement in your communication skills. New members will be assigned a mentor to assist you in your learning. For every project, you will receive feedback so that you may improve.
Anyone who does a project will receive an evaluation. It is a short 2-3 mins feedback session given by another member who has completed a speech project equal to or higher than the speaker. Giving an evaluation not only helps the speaker to realise his/her blind spot but also trains the evaluator to listen attentively and give precise feedback. Audiences can also learn the potential pitfalls for certain speech projects.
Head down to one of our meetings and approach any of our friendly EXCO members.
